Beaches to the west of Oleron island

The West coast of the island, called "the wild coast" ("la côte sauvage"), is open to the ocean. It offers a less calm sea than the East coast, facing Pertuis d'Antioche.

The beaches are described from south, Grand-Village, to north, Saint-Denis. The southern end of this coast is presented on the page dedicated to the beaches of Saint-Trojan.

Towards ocean: the wild coast

  • Giraudière beach: in the vicinity of Grand-Village-Plage, the GrandePlage becomes Giraudière. Served by car parks, it brings happiness to amateur surfers. There is an area reserved to naturists.
  • At low tide, you can see the wreckage of Presidente Viera, an Uruguayan cargo steamer.
  • Vert-Bois beach: in the Dolus district, it continues to the North the Giraudière. An interesting surf spot can be found there.
  • La Rémigeasse is the family beach of Dolus d'Oléron.
  • Perroche beach has a sailing club, the Wind Oléron Club.
  • Sables Vigniers beach is skirted by a dune and a pine forest. A beach club welcomes children.
  • In Saint-Georges, Domino beach is lined by the forest of the same name. Chaucre beach is located behind the "little rock" dunes.
